Tonight I picked up the San Cristobal Papagayo XXL. Little did I realize that this is masterfully blended by Don Pepin himself from My Father cigars. I was in the mood for a higher gauge longer smoke tonight and this caught my eye. Wrapped in a dark, oily Nicaraguan Habano leaf, this cigar opens with the a punch of black pepper before settling into rich notes of dark chocolate, roasted espresso, and earthy cedar. Enjoyable smoke, but I'm not sure I'd reach for it again. It reminds me of one of my go to smokes, the CAO Flathead 660, but lacks the light sweetness of vanilla that completes the cigar nicely. That said, as my first cigar from San Cristobal, it definitely left me curious, and I'm looking forward to exploring more from the line. For those that have had San Cristobal, which one would you recommend I try next?
