Tonight's pick was one that was gifted to me from my brother-in-law. Admittedly, I have not tried too many of the label but tonight I had the original Winston Churchill from Davidoff. This cigar hit the mark tonight as it is Medium-bodied, balanced, and nuanced. An Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder, and a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. First third opens up with a nutty mix of roasted cashews and toasted almonds. Add in a nice creamy vanilla smoke and I have this quite enjoyable smoke. As I enter into the The second get a creamy oak mixed with coffee and a touch of nutmeg. Pairing this with Brugal Leyenda brings out the nutmeg, cocoa, and toasted almond notes making this even more enjoyable. As it winds down in the last third, the profile turns darker and bolder. Roasted espresso, leather, and cedar take the lead, while black pepper and cinnamon kick up the spice. Despite the intensity, it stays smooth, finishing with salty peanuts and dry wood. I'd be a lot happier in this picture if I had a cigar in my hand. But I post this picture because it was during my deployments in Iraq that I truly came to appreciate cigars. It was that hour or two that I got to reclaim my serenity and the hour or so that I would never get back.
